许菱芝说，经历肛癌与造口手术，让她更珍惜与家人相处的时光，希望工作之余，帮助更多有需要的人。 （龙国雄摄） 患肛癌、做造口手术，尽管为生活带来不便，教师许菱芝勇敢面对挑战，学会与造口袋共存。10月5日是造口意识日，新加坡造口协会将在这天正式推出造口卡，让患者得到更好的社会支援，在外急须使用公厕或残疾厕所时，可随时向工作人员或公众出示造口卡。 2018年12月，小学教师许菱芝（现年42岁）初次被诊断患有肛癌；2019年1月，她接受手术并开始佩戴造口袋（stoma bag）。造口是指通过手术在皮肤做一个肠道开口，用于排空粪便。 她忆述患癌的经历，最初是脊柱连续不断的疼痛，2016至2017年病情逐渐加重。2017年下半年开始，她发现每月体重减少半公斤；2018年10月出现大量便血。她不得不请一整年无薪假，卸下工作后得以完全放松心情养病。当年12月又做一次内窥镜检查。期间，也依赖宗教信仰的精神力量，度过艰难时刻。 肛癌是一个打击，当外科医生告诉她必须做造口手术时，许菱芝心里感到恐慌。丈夫虽然感到悲观，但是他认为既然手术是挽救她性命的唯一办法，那么就必须学会佩戴造口袋生活。朋友和亲戚给予很大鼓励，给了她强大的精神和情感支持，勇敢地面对未来挑战。
